This year has been very exciting for the Bonsteel family and the upcoming Christmas season. This is the first Christmas that Cooper truly understands the importance of the "big man" (aka Santa Claus). The weekend after Thanksgiving, we broke open the Christmas decorations as well as the Christmas DVDs and the Christmas music (the Christmas VHS tapes were also taken out, and quickly put in the "donation" pile). Cooper and Cate have been watching Charlie Brown, the Grinch and Frosty (as well as number of trashy made-for-TV Christmas movies Nicole subjects the family to - ho ho ho).
Cate has been mesmerized by the Christmas colors, sounds and lights. She has even joined in the festivities by wearing her brand new Christmas pajamas.
Once the tree was completely decorated, Cooper and Cate posed for a picture.
The next step was writing a letter to Santa. Daddy helped Cooper write to Santa and let him know that he had been a good boy this year. For the past few weeks, whenever we ask what he wants Santa to bring him, he consistently says "Jessie!" (the female cowgirl from the Toy Story movies). When we ask him what else, he always pauses, says "hmmmmm.....The Beatles!!!"
So his Christmas letter to Santa asked for Jessie and The Beatles. Here is Cooper signing his name (in red crayon). Cooper also helped write Cate's letter to Santa (for the record, she asked for a doll).
We placed a stamp on the letters, made sure they were addressed correctly (To Santa Claus: North Pole) and then took them to the mailbox to Santa in Macy's so that they could get to Santa quickly (apparently Macy's not only has licensing deals with Martha Stewart and Donald Trump, but Kris Kringle as well). Cooper was very careful to make sure his letter was placed properly in the mailbox.

We bought an engraved first Christmas ornament for Cate - and also bought one for Cooper so he has a matching silver baby shoe (so in 20 years, lets all pretend that we actually bought Cooper's when he was born - wink wink).

Finally, it was time to meet the man in person (and get a picture in the process). Cooper was super excited and waved and cheered as Santa walked by and took his seat while were in line. Then came time to sit on his lap - and all of a sudden Cooper's thoughts on being close to a large bearded man in a red suit in the middle of a suburban mall didn't sounds so good. Luckily, Cate didn't seem to mind as much, and thanks to the elf (i.e., camera guy) Daddy sat in a chair next to Santa so that there was somewhat of an appearance that Cooper, Cate and Santa were all sitting together.
Of course - within 90 seconds of leaving the Christmas Village, Cooper was talking it up how he met Santa and what a great time it was.......
